Things You'll Need:
- Mac OS Tiger Installation discs
-
Step 1
Shut down any applications that you're running. The computer will have to close out all programs before installation and you can save a few moments if you do it manually. Be sure to save all of your work.
-
Step 2
Insert the installation disc into your computer. If you've got an installation DVD, then that's all you need. If you're installing Tiger on your power PC machine from CDs, you need to put in CD 1.
-
Step 3
Open the install disc and double click on "Install OS X Tiger" to open the installation program.
-
Step 4
Work through the welcome windows. A few screens will pop up and explain a little bit about Tiger. Press "continue" as required.
-
Step 5
Wait for the installation program to scan the available drives. You probably only have one hard drive, but the program will look for others just in case.
-
Step 6
Note the available space listed and the amount of space required for the installation. Select the drive on which you wish to install Tiger (likely, your Macintosh HD) and click on "continue."
-
Step 7
Read through the user agreement and legal page and then click "I accept" at the bottom to continue. This page tells you about the software license and what you can and can't do with the program legally.
-
Step 8
Select the language you want to use in OS X Tiger and click "Install." The installation process can take up to a few hours depending on your computer. If you're using one install disc, you can leave it and come back later.
-
Step 9
Check up on your computer if you need to change from installation CD 1 to disc 2 or 3. The disc tray opens by itself and you just switch the CDs and close the tray to continue.
-
Step 10
Set up any remaining options once installation is finished. You may need to set up the Administrator account and password. If you had a previous version of the OS on your computer all the data and settings will still be there. OS Tiger only updates system files.
