Attract Geocache Tourists

With the increasing popularity of geocaching, many businesses are beginning to look for ways to draw geocache tourists to their business. If you are familiar with geocache, you may already have some ideas on how to bring geocachers to your business, whatever it may be. If you aren't familiar with geocaching, give it a try to learn about the sport and then work towards bringing in the tourists.

Instructions

    • 1

Sell items that geocachers need including GPS devices, containers for caches, items to put inside a cache or hiking equipment. Although geocaching doesn't require a bunch of equipment in order to participate, many geocachers will be interested in items that make the sport more interesting or easy for them like fun items to leave in caches, hiking supplies and maps.

    • 2

Hide a cache of your own with information about your business included in the cache. You might tape a business card or description of your business inside your cache or offer discounts to individuals who bring back a designated item (like a special geocache coin) from your cache.

    • 3

Sponsor or host a geocaching event. You could offer an information or training class for new geocachers or you could hold a geocache race or contest. You could also sign on as a sponsor for events that are held by state or region geocache organizations.

    • 4

Create a website that provides information about both geocaching and your business. This will work best if there is something your business can provide for those interested in geocaching. For example, if you own a bed and breakfast, you might provide information about local geocaching in your area, including events, or have special geocaching packages for your guests that included maps of the area and snacks for the trail.

    • 5

Consider having a special item made which can be placed in caches for individuals to find and which references your business. For example, you could have a geocache coin made which has your business logo or location on it.

    • 6

Advertise on a geocache oriented website. As geocachers use various websites to find the coordinates to caches and report their findings, you will be able to reach many geocache tourists this way.
