Block party invitations are usually casual since block parties are generally laid back affairs. Select invitations that work with the theme of the block party or represent your neighborhood. Make sure invitations are ready in advance of the party so you have plenty of time for distribution.

  • Flyers

    Select Block Party Invitations

  1. Step 1

Order them online. You can select and design pre-made invitations meant for larger than normal distribution. Evite is a Web site that allows you to create custom invitations.

  2. Step 2

Visit a stationary and card shop. You can buy pre-boxed invitations where you can insert dates and times by hand or with a word processor.

  3. Step 3

Create easy, simple flyers. Just a simple 81/2 by 11 inch sheet of white or colored paper will do the trick.

  4. Step 4

Opt for fun, festive colors, especially if the party coincides with a holiday. For the fourth of July, a red, white and blue theme would fit perfectly.

  5. Step 5

Order printed, customized high-quality invitations. Although these are more expensive, you may be able to pool resources with the neighbors.

  6. Step 6

Ask neighbors to help design them. You may have a painter or other creative artist living in your midst.

  7. Distribute Block Party Invitations

  8. Step 1

Drop them in your neighbors' mailboxes. This is probably the fastest, easiest and most direct route for distribution.

  9. Step 2

Post invitations or flyers around your neighborhood. Ideal locations are gatehouses, light posts and on car windshields.

  10. Step 3

Mail them through the Post Office. If it's a more formal block party or you are using custom invitations, always mail the invites for the block party rather than handing them out on your own.

  11. Step 4

Ask the kids to help. If one of the neighborhood kids delivers morning newspapers, see if you can attach a flyer for the party.

  12. Step 5

Email neighbors. Web sites like Evite can help you design fun, colorful online invites for a block party.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you are savvy, you can browse invitations online or in card stores and then replicate what you see for a fraction of the cost. Check with your neighbors and see if any of them are arts and crafts experts.
  • Avoid exhausting your printer's ink cartridges. Either have invitations and flyers printed with a printing company or take them to a copy shop.
