When planning your wedding, one way to cut costs is to make your own centerpieces for the tables at your reception rather than purchase elaborate flower arrangements. An affordable option is to make inexpensive centerpieces using balloons. Balloons come in a variety of colors and textures to match the style and decor of your wedding reception. Using balloons to make wedding centerpieces is easy and fun.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Balloons
  • Helium tank
  • Ribbon or string
  • Paperweight or other heavy object
  1. Step 1

Decide how many balloons you will use at each table. Three or four balloons are usually the norm. But for more drama, you can use a dozen smaller balloons or one extremely large ballon for each centerpiece.

  2. Step 2

Purchase balloons from a party supply store. Pick colors that complement your wedding colors. If you cannot find any suitable colors, white and black balloons or metallic colors, make for an eye-catching center piece. Be sure to buy extra balloons in case some of them pop when you are inflating them.

  3. Step 3

Rent a helium tank. You will need to fill your balloons with helium just a couple hours before the reception. Party supply stores and home building stores such as Home Depot or Lowes often will rent helium tanks at a very low cost.

  4. Step 4

Put together your centerpieces. Fill the balloons with helium and tie a string or ribbon to the balloon. Use a long string so that the balloons are well above the table. You do not want the balloons to be low where they will block the view of your guests.

  5. Step 5

Anchor the balloons with a heavy object. You can use a picture frame with a photo of the bride and groom, a bundle of candy, paperweight or other heavy trinket to anchor the balloons on the table. Gather the strings of several balloons and tie or tape them to your anchor. Place it in the center of the table and make sure it's heavy enough that the balloons won't lift it. Sprinkle the table with flower petals, confetti or glitter for an added effect.

  6. Step 6

Encourage guests take home the balloons. It is nice if your guests are able to take home the centerpieces. Give the balloon centerpieces to young children attending the wedding reception.

Tips & Warnings
  • Do not fill the balloons too far ahead of time, or they will fall during the reception.
