Just like everything, a garbage disposal also needs a good cleaning. When left unattended, odors could begin to spread throughout the kitchen. The following will not only help you clean the disposal, but also bring a fresh scent to your entire kitchen. Read on to learn how to remove an odor from a garbage disposal.

Things You’ll Need:

Step1
Run water into a running disposal before cleaning.
Step2
Turn off the disposal and water.
Step3
Pour 1 1/2 cups of ice cubes into the garbage disposal. It is best to use cubes and not ice chips. The bigger the better.
Step4
Pour 2 tbs. of baking soda into the garbage disposal with the ice.
Step5
Turn on the water and garbage disposal.
Step6
Allow it to grind until you can no longer hear the ice in the disposal.
Step7
Cut a lemon or orange in half.
Step8
Insert into the garbage disposal and run water into the disposal.

Tips & Warnings

  • Throw in your orange and lemon peels at anytime. This will freshen up the smell and add a beautiful citric smell to the room.
  • Never put your hands in the garbage disposal.
