How to Download and Install Internet Explorer

Internet Explorer is probably the most popular Internet browser available. It comes already installed on most IMB-based computers. Because Windows frequently puts out updated versions of Internet Explorer, it will likely become necessary to download the program, from time to time, to make sure you stay updated with the latest technology. Fortunately, it is easy to download and install Internet Explorer.

Things You’ll Need:

  • Access to the Internet
  • Computer

Get Internet Explorer for Your Computer

Step1
Go to the Internet Explorer home page (see Resources below).
Step2
Find the heading giving the name of the latest version of Internet Explorer, then click on 'Download.'
Step3
Click on 'Check System Requirements' to make sure your computer is able to support Internet Explorer.
Step4
Read the system requirements. If you decide after reading them that Internet Explorer will run on your computer, click the 'Back' button in your toolbar.
Step5
Select the 'Download' button underneath the version of Internet Explorer the site has already selected for you.
Step6
Click the 'Continue' button to allow Internet Explorer to verify you are operating a Windows-based computer.
Step7
Follow the provided instructions for validating your Windows system. You will right-click your toolbar, click on 'Install ActiveX,' wait for the security box to pop up and then click 'Install.'
Step8
Click on 'Download' once the Web site has automatically taken you to the page where you will find that button.
Step9
Follow the directions in the installation window that will now appear. The window will guide you through the installation process. You will first click 'Next,' then read the license agreement and select 'I Accept.' In the next window, click 'Validate.'

Install Internet Explorer

Step1
Look for a dialogue box to pop up on your desktop. This box will ask you if you want to run the download. Click 'Run.'
Step2
Click 'Next' to install Internet Explorer and all pertinent updates.
Step3
Wait patiently while Internet Explorer installs itself on your computer. This could take a few minutes.
Step4
Choose the 'Restart Now' option to restart your computer. Internet Explorer will not run until after your computer has been shut down and restarted.
