How to Play a Song in iTunes

If you already have Windows Media Player installed, it may be difficult to play a song in iTunes instead of your default player. However, you can designate iTunes as your default player for MP3s and other audio files. Just follow the instructions below.

Things You'll Need:

• Account with iTunes
• Computer

1. Open iTunes on your computer.

2. Click the "Edit" menu, and then select "Preferences."

3. Click the "Advanced" tab. Within the "Advanced" tab, find the "General" tab.

4. Check the option for “Use iTunes as the Default Player for Audio Files.”

5. Click "OK." Whenever you double-click on an audio file in Windows, it will automatically open iTunes and begin playing.

6. Play a file from your library. You can access music in your current iTunes library from iTunes itself. Click "Music" from the "Source" list under "Library." The songs in your library will appear on the right.

7. Click a song once to select it.

8. Press the "Play" button in the top left corner or double-click a song to begin play.

9. If you don’t see a song in your library, but you know it is on your computer, you must add it. Click "File." Then select "Add file to library" and locate the file on your hard drive.

Tips & Warnings

• You can search for songs in your library by typing an artist or song name in the search box in the top right.
• Windows Media Player again may ask you to make it your default player. Check the box for “Don’t Ask Again” and click "No."
• If you don’t see your entire library, make sure there is nothing typed into the search box and that no items appear in the "Browse" interface.
