How to Dial an Extension With Skype

Skype offers many online services, including the ability to dial numbers with extensions. If you are new to Skype or unfamiliar with how it works, you may need assistance when dialing an extension. Follow these steps to learn how to dial an extension with Skype.

• Skype account

1. Activate the SkypeOut service. This service needs to be activated or you will only be allowed to connect to other Skype users.

2. Obtain caller information. You should have the phone number and location of the person you are trying to call. This information is helpful when accessing the dialing page in your Skype account.

3. Test your computer equipment. Echo123—the sound test feature provided with the free Skype download—allows you to test your computer equipment prior to use to ensure the best sound quality throughout all calls.

4. Determine the country code. Skype provides a site that allows you to find the country or region in which you are calling and inquire the country code needed for dialing the number.

5. Enter call information into the address field. Enter the number you are calling in the following way: “+” plus “country code” plus “number.” Once you have done this, place the call.

6. Dial the extension. After you have placed the call, you will be asked to enter the extension number.

7. Enter the extension number. This can be done by going to the dial tab and entering the extension, or by typing in the extension with the number pad on your keyboard. Try both ways to see which is more successful with your machine.

• Make sure you have enough Skype credits to make your call. Purchase extra credits if necessary.
• If you perform this task and still cannot connect to the extension, you can make a customer support request online through your account.
• Be sure to have plenty of Skype credits available or your call may be disconnected.
