How to Install and Set Up Media Center PC

Media Center PC comes with pre-installed Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005. With it, you can use basic computing technology for your home entertainment purposes. You need to set up, install and equip basic components of the system before you begin. The setup and installation process is fairly easy.

1. Determine the components you would need to equip your Media Center PC. A majority of these components would come with your package when you buy a Media Center PC. All you need to do is to plug them into the system and ensure proper functioning.

2. Connect your Media Center PC with the monitor or a TV. You do not generally need a separate monitor to use Media Center. However, if you wish to do some serious computing using your Media Center PC, only then consider getting a separate monitor.

3. Connect your Media Center PC to your TV. It provides great entertainment value as you can record, download, pause and rewind your favorite TV shows.

4. Connect the mouse and keyboard. These basic input devices help you to work on your PC especially when browsing the internet and working on other loaded software packages.

5. Connect the control receiver. This enables you to process your TV listing requests and a variety of other functions when viewing and recording live TV programs. The remote control provided extends basic functions. You can use your mouse instead of the remote but may find the latter convenient when watching and recording TV shows. Always ensure that you have good batteries in your remote control.

6. Check the Internet connection. If you do not have it, get one as soon as possible. Choose a broadband connection. It's faster and will help you to use your Media Center PC in a better way.

7. Tune in to your TV signal from an antenna, cable or satellite receiver. Get a cable connection if you do not have one. Without multiple channels your Media Center experience is incomplete.

8. Connect your speakers and other home theatre system components to enhance your Windows Media Center PC experience. Get an additional Soundcard if not provided with the system.

9. Finally, plug in all the cables to complete the setup. Refer the provided documentation on plugging the cables. The VGA (Video Graphics Array) and RCA (Radio Corporation of America) composite are the most important cables. Your Media Center PC is now equipped and ready to use.
