Keep Your Summer Eye Makeup Fresh

If streaking liner and creasing eye shadow have you ready to wipe your eye makeup off by lunch, modify your regimen. Prevention is your best defense in keeping eye makeup fresh during the hot and humid summer months. When your new regimen still can't beat the heat, a few simple touch-ups will keep your eyes free of streaks.

    Instructions

    Things You'll Need

    • Face-blotting Papers
    • Cotton Swabs
    • Eye Shadow
    • Eye Shadow Brushes
    • Eyeliners
    • Face Powder
    • Liquid Eyeliners
    • Makeup Brushes
    • Mascara
    • Waterproof Mascaras
      • 1

Switch to products that can handle the heat. Look for long-wearing or waterproof mascara, choose eye pencils over liquid liners, and switch to shadows that harden to a cream once applied.

      • 2

Go light. Line the upper lash line, or settle for a sweep of a light shadow. Shadow from lash line to brow is more likely to cake or crease in the heat, and darker colors will be more apparent if they bleed.

      • 3

Skip eyeliner and mascara on the lower lashes. It's likely to streak in the sweaty under-eye area.

      • 4

Set eye makeup with a light dusting of loose powder. This will help absorb any moisture that may cause eye makeup to melt.

      • 5

Use a non-powdered blotting paper to remove any under-eye perspiration when you do notice streaking. Wipe away any eye makeup with a clean cotton swab.

      • 6

        Reapply faded makeup sparingly.

    Tips & Warnings

    • Limit yourself to one coat of mascara.

    • Consider permanent makeup. It's now possible to have your brows and lash line permanently tinted.

    • Do not apply additional mascara to the lashes during the day. This may lead to a caked or clumpy look.

Urban Decay Primer Potion works so well. It goes on clear and makes your eyeshadow stay put for nearly 24 hours, not joking! It's definitely worth it.

Best solution for an eyeshadow that stays put is using a Primer such as Loose Powder or the Eye Primer from Mary Kay. I applied it on my friend and her family (it was her wedding) this last weekend & it worked WONDERS! For starters, the wedding was in South Florida and we were all sweating like crazy. Since I helped w/ the makeup my first worry was: will she look perfect all afternoon and well into the evening? The answer: Yes! I didn't have to touch up the make up at all :-)

To keep your summer look fresh, less definitely is more! Even though some say you should try a tinted moisturizer, I find them too greasy (unless you have dry skin, feel free to use them in the Summer). But for normal or oily skin, it's just too darn oily. I prefer a sheer powder makeup or a loose powder. Loose powder is much heavier then pressed powder because it is fluffier. I recommend Benefit Bluffdust, which is a pale yellow powder that compliments anyone and makes you look beautiful, warm and sweet, and it really evens your skin tone. For acne, and anything else you would like to cover, I don't recommend liquid or creme concealers (which will melt or settle into fine lines). I recommend a stick concealer, which are mostly multipurpose. It can be used for acne, scars and dark circles. I recommend Benefit It stick or MAC concealing stick, which are both wonderful. Simply smooth on some loose powder and cover some areas that can't be seen with a stick concealer. As for eyes; some powder eyeshadow and some waterproof mascara (limit to only 1 -2 thin coats), and if you must a gel; eyeliner like Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel eyeliner. For cheeks; a stain would be nice but so are powders like MAC Blushes (powder forms) the shade 'Dame' compliments anyone. It's a sheer, build-able, coverage pink. For lips; Bobbi Brown Lip Tints are simply wonderful.
