This method of decorating Easter eggs is an easy one the whole family can enjoy.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Smocks
  • Sponges
  • Hard-boiled Eggs
  • Egg Cups
  • Scissors
  • Watercolor Paints

Step1
Assemble watercolor paints, hard-boiled eggs and sponges.
Step2
Cut the sponges into small triangles.
Step3
Hold an egg in one hand with your thumb on one end and index finger on the other.
Step4
Dip the tip of the sponge triangle into the paint and dab it onto the egg.
Step5
Make sure you get a sponge texture by pressing lightly. You do not want to rub the sponge against the egg, as this will eliminate the textured look.
Step6
Leave spaces between your sponge prints.
Step7
Allow the egg to dry after painting with one color, then add another color.
Step8
Hold the egg in a slightly different spot so that all of the egg can be painted.
Step9
Sponge-paint light colors over light and dark colors for an interesting look. If you place a dark color on top of a light color, you will obliterate the light color.
Step10
Let the eggs dry completely.
Step11
Store them in the refrigerator.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you will be painting with children, be sure to use smocks.
  • Place eggs into cups used for soft-boiled eggs to make it easier for a child who cannot hold an egg and paint it at the same time.
