How to Use Orca to Create MST Files

Save

Orca, an application which is part of the Microsoft Windows Installer software development kit, allows its users to modify MSI packages. MSI files allow users to install applications on Windows computers. After having been modified with Orca, MSI packages are then saved with an MST extension. You can create MST files with Orca by importing an existing MSI package, modifying it and saving it in the MST format.

  • Launch the Orca editor application. You can find a shortcut to Orca in your Windows Start menu.

  • Click on "File" and select "Open." Use the file browser to locate an existing MSI Windows Installer package and click on the "Open" button.

  • Open the "Transform" menu and select "New Transform." A new window will open, containing the MSI package's properties.

  • Modify the MSI file, if needed, by changing the values of its properties.

  • Open the "Transform" menu and select "Generate Transform." Name the MST file and save it on your hard drive.
