How to Create a JPEG With a Transparent Background
Because of their relatively small file size, JPEGs are the preferred way to save photos for Web pages among professional graphic designers. Many website designers use JPEGS with transparent backgrounds for a seamless look. Transparent backgrounds work well placed on cards, on stationery or merged with other photographs.

Using a photo image editing software such as Adobe Photoshop, select “File” and “Open” and click the name of the JPEG with the background that you want to make transparent.
-
2
Open the Layers window. Right-click the image, which is labeled “Background,” and select “Duplicate Layer.”

3
In the Layers panel, select the original image, which is labeled “Background” and has a small image of a lock to its right. Click and drag the image into the trash at the bottom right of the screen. When you're hovering the mouse over the trash can image, it should say “Delete Layer.”
-
4
With the image labeled “Background Copy” highlighted in the layers panel, click the magic wand tool and select any portion of the background of the JPEG.
-
5
Click the “Delete” key on the computer keyboard. You should see a gray-and-white checkered background replace the one you just deleted. This means that the background is now transparent.

6
Click “File” and “Save as,” then type in a filename. From the “Format” drop-down menu, select "JPEG." Then click the “Save” button from the lower right portion of the window.

A screen called “JPEG options” appears. Select the image quality and file size that you want to use for the image and click “OK.”
