How to Get a Text Readout From JAWS
JAWS is a software application designed for the visually impaired. With the JAWS software, you can have the text that appears on your computer screen read aloud. Customize the text reader to suit your personal needs. If you want to use JAWS only for specific computer documents, set up the program to read text manually. If you need JAWS to read all text that appears on your computer screen, set up the option to read text automatically.

Press your Windows “Start” button.

Type “Run” in the “Start Search” box. Press “Enter” on your keyboard.

Type “JAWSX” in the field that is labeled “Open.” Click “OK.”

Open the document on your computer that you would like JAWS to read. Wait for JAWS to begin reading the text.

Type “JAWSX” in the field labeled “Open.” Click “OK.”

Press “Insert” and “J” simultaneously on your keyboard. This launches the JAWS application window.

Press “Alt” and “H” simultaneously on your keyboard. This opens the help menu.

Press “Z” to open and complete the setup wizard. When completing the wizard, be sure to select the option to start JAWS “Always.”

Reboot your computer. When the computer reboots, JAWS automatically launches and reads all text that appears on your screen.
