How to Hide a Subwoofer in a Wall
If you don't want a bulky subwoofer box taking up floor space, why not go for a stealth installation and hide it in the wall? If you don't object to cutting into the wall, a speaker system can be created that will provide plenty of low-frequency effect without anyone ever seeing it. The task requires just a few basic tools to do effectively. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Stud finder
- Keyhole saw
- 1/2-inch plywood
- Jig saw
- 10-inch subwoofer
- 8d nails
- Hammer
- Screwdriver
- Wood screws
- Air vent panel

Run a stud finder along the wall at the location where the subwoofer will be installed. Mark the stud locations with a pencil. Cut an opening in the wall that's 16 inches tall and extends from the center of one stud to the center of the next stud along the wall.

Cut a 15- by 16-inch piece of plywood. Use the subwoofer as a template. Cut an opening in the center of the plywood.

Place the plywood board into the wall, wedged between the studs, 2 inches behind the front edge of the studs. Toenail the board into the studs with 8d nails.

Place the subwoofer in the opening. Secure it into the board with woodscrews placed in the holes in the subwoofer's mounting ring.

Place a vent cover over the opening in the wall to disguise it. Secure the vent cover to the wall with screws placed through the cover's screw holes.
