How to Make Your Watch's Steel Band Fit
Steel band watches can be very fashionable and extremely reliable time pieces. Some brands of steel watches come sized too large but are packaged with a few extra links so that the wristband can be shortened or increased. With a few watch repair tools, good lighting and a sure hand, you can remove the links and adjust your steel watch band at home. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Lay a soft cloth or towel down on a work bench or flat table.
-
2
Place a lamp on the table next to the towel. Plug in the lamp and turn it on.
-
-
3
Lay the watch face down on the cloth and find the section of band attached to the top of the watch that is at the 12:00 position. This should have the single clasp at the end of it, not the dual fold-out clasp on the other section of the band.
-
4
Push the retaining pin out of the clasp with a paper clip. Set the pin aside so it does not get lost and remove the clasp from the watch.
-
5
Hold the band down while slipping the 1-mm retaining clip against the end of the link to be removed. Once it slides out, grasp the end of the retaining clip with the needle-nose pliers, and then separate the link from the rest of the band.
-
6
Repeat Step 5 for as many links as you want removed.
-
7
Align the now-adjusted band with the clasp and slip the clasp pin back in place using either the paper clip or the screwdriver.
