How to Macrame Cabochons

Use extra cording to wrap the macrame knots around the cabochon.

Cabochons are large, shaped and polished stones. These natural-looking rocks are a perfect match for the bohemian style of macrame work. To combine the two elements, a net-like wrap needs to be made to support the heavy stone. Hung from necklaces, belts and more, the stones can be wrapped using a 6-strand knotting technique and secured with two additional strands.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut three strands of 24-inch cording. Fold the strands in half and knot the strands an inch from the top.

    • 2

Separate the outer two strands from the others. Separate the next outer two strands from the final inner strands.

    • 3

Knot the middle two strands over the inner two strands four times.

    • 4

Separate the six strands into two groups of three. Knot the outer two strands around the center strand of each group.

    • 5

Repeat knotting techniques alternating between the four inner and two outer knots for the length necessary to wrap around the edges of the cabochon. Knot the ends of the macrame strand.

    • 6

Cut two additional 12-inch strands of cording. Lace each strand through the sides of the macrame. Wrap the macrame around the cabochon.

    • 7

Pull the laced strands taut and knot at the front and back of the cabochon. Push the knotted end of the macrame through the loop at the top of the macrame.
