A simple red felt box is perfect for Valentine's Day.

Give a gift to a special person in your life by enclosing it in a felt heart-shaped box. A homemade gift box becomes as special as the gift itself, and shows the recipient you spent time and attention on the gift. Make heart-shaped boxes as favors for a wedding or party, or fill one with chocolate for Valentine's Day. Felt comes in a variety of colors and you can further personalize the boxes by adding lace, ribbon or paint.

Instructions

    • 1

Load your printer with card stock or heavy paper. Print out the heart-shaped box pattern. Use colored paper if you want the inside of your box colored. Cut out the pattern around the solid lines.

    • 2

Fold along the dotted lines of the pattern to make creases, then smooth out the paper. Cut a slit in the paper along the line above the printed "A." Dip a paint brush in fabric glue and brush it on the printed side of the fabric. Apply the fabric to a piece of felt and smooth out any air bubbles or creases. Place some heavy books on top of the felt to weigh it down and allow the glue to dry.

    • 3

Cut the pattern out of the felt. Cut the slit in the felt where you cut the paper. If you want to decorate the inside of the box, use paints, markers or stamps to cover the paper.

    • 4

Fold the felt along the creases of the paper. Add glue to the felt side of the two small flaps on the sides of piece "A." Bend piece "A" around the tops of the hearts and glue the tabs to the paper side of the hearts. Bend piece "B" around the tops of the hearts and push the tab through the slit in piece "A." Add glue to the felt side of the tab and press it to the paper. Add glue to the felt side of the bottom of piece "A" and glue it to the paper at the bottom of piece "B" to complete the heart.

    • 5

Bend the tab on the bottom of the top heart and slide it into the box. You can glue the tab in place or leave it unglued so you can open and close the box.

    • 6

Apply glue around the perimeter of the box and add ribbon or lace for decoration. Use fabric paint to write "I love you," "My Valentine," or the recipient's name on the top of the box.

Tips & Warnings

  • Glue light fabric or scrapbooking paper to the inside of the box for a fun pattern.
