Make a base chain of 59 stitches. As you crochet your first row place two single crochets in the second chain from the hook then single crochet in each chain across, ending with four single crochets in the last stitch. Crocheting along the opposite side of the starting chain, single crochet across in each free loop, ending with two single crochets in the last chain. There will be a total of four single crochets in this last stitch. Make a slip stitch into the first single crochet to join. You should now have 128 single crochets in total.

Begin row two of your work with a chain one and place a single crochet in the joining stitch; then continue to single crochet in each stitch around. When you get to the last stitch make a slip stitch into the first single crochet. Repeat this until you've finished the eighth row. When you begin your ninth row of crochet, chain two and double crochet in the joining stitch; then double crochet in each stitch around. Slip stitch into the first double crochet and join. When working rows 10 through 12, chain one and single crochet in the joining stitch; then single crochet around, being sure that as you end each round slip stitch in first single crochet. For rows 13 through 36 repeat rows 9 to 12 nine more times. To work rows 37 - 39 chain two, double crochet in the joining stitch then double crochet in each stitch around. Slip stitch in the first double crochet and join.
At this point the case should fit your iPad. Some crafters crochet more tightly than others, so you may need to repeat row nine until all of the crocheted rows cover the case.

Single crochet in the next five stitches, chain two and skip two stitches as these will be your button holes.
