A CRT or VGA-based computer monitor.

You can change the screen resolution for your monitor in Microsoft Windows. Most of the CRT or boxed monitors have a 15-pin connector that uses Video Graphic Array (VGA) technology. Adjusting the resolution on a VGA-based monitor is the same as a LCD or widescreen computer monitor. You need to access the Adjust Screen Resolution application on the Windows operating system to adjust the resolution settings.

Instructions

    • 1

      Start up your computer system.

    • 2

Click the "Start" menu, then type "Screen Resolution" (without quotes) in the search box and press the "Enter" key.

    • 3

Select the "Adjust Screen Resolution" application from the menu.

    • 4

Click the "Resolution" menu. A box with a slider appears.

    • 5

Move the slider up or down to adjust the screen resolution. The best screen resolution for VGA-based monitors is usually 800-by-600 pixels. Click the "Apply" button.

    • 6

Click the "Keep Changes" or "Revert" button, depending if you want to keep the chosen screen resolution or go back to the old settings. Click "OK" when completely done with adjusting the resolution.
