How to Create Layers in Dreamweaver CS5

Adobe's Dreamweaver Web development software once used "layers" -- discrete sections of a document in which the designer can place text, images or other objects. Layers were discontinued beginning with the CS3 version of Dreamweaver, but their attributes persist in "absolutely positioned DIV" objects, or "AP Divs."

Instructions

    • 1

Click in Dreamweaver's main Document window to activate it.

    • 2

Open the "Window" menu, and click "Insert" to open the Insert panel, if you haven't already.

    • 3

Click the "Draw AP Div" button in the panel's Layout category.

    • 4

Click and drag in the Document window to draw the AP Div.

    • 5

Click inside the box you drew, then type text or use the Objects panel to insert an object like an image or Flash animation.
