How to Convert a PNG to a Layered PSD

Adobe Fireworks is a web graphics editing tool that supports layers and exporting to other Adobe file types, such as the Adobe Photoshop native file type. Adobe Photoshop offers more tools and functionality as the industry-standard graphic design application. To convert a Portable Network Graphic to a layered PSD file, the PNG file must contain layers as well. Export the layered PNG file to a layered PSD file by using features in Adobe Fireworks.

Things You'll Need

• Adobe Fireworks installed
• Layered PNG file

Instructions

1. Right-click on the layered PNG file and click "Open With."

2. Click the "Adobe Fireworks" option from the context menu. The PNG file opens in Adobe Fireworks.

3. Click the "File" option on the top navigation bar, and then click "Save As."

4. Click the "File Type" drop-down box and then click the "Adobe Photoshop (.psd)" file type from the list.

5. Click the "Save" button. The layered PNG file is exported to a layered PSD file.
