How to Close the Web Browser on an iPod touch
If you want to completely exit the iPod touch Safari mobile browser, you must close the application through the device's multitasking pane. In the multitasking pane, you can view all the programs running on your iPod touch. Even if you close your Safari browser window, the application will continue to run until you quit the program through the multitasking pane.

Double-click the "Home" button. Your multitasking status pane opens at the bottom of the screen.

Locate the "Safari" icon. Swipe your finger across the status pane in a leftward motion, if necessary, to view more app icons.

Touch and hold the "Safari" app icon.

Release the "Safari" icon when it starts to jiggle.

Tap the "X" button that appears on the icon to close the Safari Web browser.
