How to Make a Line Friendship Bracelet

How to Make a Line Friendship Bracelet thumbnail
Combine two of your favorite colors in a line friendship bracelet.

Friendship bracelets are made with cotton fibers making them very comfortable and lightweight. Patterns for the bracelets can take a few minutes or several hours to create. Photo galleries and patterns for line friendship bracelets are available on the internet and in handicraft books. Use two contrasting colors when making a line friendship bracelet. This will ensure that the line woven down the center of the bracelet will stand out. The bracelet can be finished with a clasp or two braided "tails" for tying with a knot.

Instructions

  1. Prepare The Thread

    • 1

Measure and cut two pieces of blue thread in 60-inch lengths.

    • 2

Measure and cut one 60-inch piece of pink thread.

    • 3

Gather all the threads together evenly.

    • 4

      Fold the threads in half.

    • 5

Make a 1-inch loop at the fold in the threads and tie a knot.

    • 6

Secure the knot under the clip on the clipboard.

    • 7

Separate the threads so the two pink threads are in the middle and two blue threads on either side.

Make a Row of Forward 4 Knots

    • 8

Take the first blue thread on the left side and fold it across the second blue thread in the shape of a number "4." Tuck it underneath and up through the loop. Pull the thread up tightly to make a knot.

    • 9

      Repeat Step 1.

    • 10

Take the first blue thread on the left side and fold it across the first pink thread in the shape of a number "4." Tuck it underneath and up through the loop. Pull the thread up tightly to make a knot.

    • 11

      Repeat Step 3.

    • 12

Take the first blue thread on the left side and fold it across the second pink thread in the shape of a number "4." Tuck it underneath and up through the loop. Pull the thread up tightly to make a knot.

    • 13

      Repeat Step 5.

    • 14

Take the first blue thread on the left side and fold it across the third blue thread in the shape of a number "4." Tuck it underneath and up through the loop. Pull the thread up tightly to make a knot.

    • 15

      Repeat Step 7.

    • 16

Take the first blue thread on the left side and fold it across the fourth blue thread in the shape of a number "4." Tuck it underneath and up through the loop. Pull the thread up tightly to make a knot.

    • 17

      Repeat Step 9.

Make a Row Backward 4 Knots

    • 18

Take the fourth blue thread on the right side and fold it across the third blue thread in the shape of a backward number "4." Tuck it underneath and up through the loop. Pull the thread up tightly to make a knot.

    • 19

      Repeat Step 1.

    • 20

Gather the two pink threads together.

    • 21

Take the two pink threads and fold them across the fourth blue thread in the shape of a backward number "4." Tuck it underneath and up through the loop. Pull the thread up tightly to make a knot.

    • 22

      Repeat Step 4.

    • 23

Take the fourth blue thread on the right side and fold it across the second blue thread in the shape of a backward number "4." Tuck it underneath and up through the loop. Pull the thread up tightly to make a knot.

    • 24

      Repeat Step 6.

    • 25

Take the fourth blue thread on the right side and fold it across the first blue thread in the shape of a backward number "4." Tuck it underneath and up through the loop. Pull the thread up tightly to make a knot.

    • 26

      Repeat Step 8.

    • 27

Continue making rows starting with the forward "4" knots, working across from left to right, and backward "4" knots, from right to left. Remember to use the two pink threads together when making the backward "4" knot. There should be a thick stripe of pink threads through the center of the bracelet.

    Finishing the Bracelet

    • 28

Stop making rows of knots when you have 3 inches of thread remaining.

    • 29

Take the first blue thread on the left side and fold it across all the threads in the shape of a number "4." Tuck it underneath and up through the loop. Pull the thread up tightly to make a knot.

    • 30

      Repeat Step 2.

    • 31

Take the fourth blue thread on the right side and fold it across all the threads in the shape of a number backward "4." Tuck it underneath and up through the loop. Pull the thread up tightly to make a knot.

    • 32

      Repeat Step 4.

    • 33

Separate the threads into two groups of two blue and one pink.

    • 34

Gather the three threads on the left side and braid them together. Tie a knot in the end and cut off the excess.

    • 35

Repeat Step 8 for the second set of three threads.

    • 36

Release the loop of the bracelet from the clip board.

    • 37

Slide one of the braided ends through the loop.

    • 38

Tie the two braids together to secure the bracelet.
