How to Hook Up a TV as a Montior
Many high-definition or LCD televisions can be used as a monitor for computers. To use a TV as a monitor for your computer, it must be equipped with a compatible input port. The VGA plug and port type is very common in LCD monitors, as is the HDMI port. Either of these connections will allow you to browse the Internet and perform your computing through your TV. Standard definition televisions will not generally work as a computer monitor, due to resolution and refresh-rate problems.

1
Check for available connection ports on your television's rear, front or side panels. Along with standard coaxial cable ports, there may be one or more HDMI, VGA or S-Video input port. For port identification, look for a label written above the port's connector or reference your television's user guide.

Locate available graphics output ports on your computer. Many desktops and laptops have HDMI or VGA ports for use with external monitors. If your computer and television have compatible ports, locate an appropriate cord to connect to two devices. If the television does not have a matching port, a converter can be purchased at most electronics stores to allow the devices to work together.
