Many little dogs and even cats feel safer in smaller beds.

Many people have cardboard boxes cluttering up their closets and other storage spaces. An incalculable number of these boxes end up in landfills every year. Many are also taken to recycling centers, which is preferable, but the recycling process still uses a great deal of energy. Reusing cardboard boxes that already exist is a most ideal solution. If you are a pet owner wondering what to do with your own cardboard boxes, the answer is quite simple--turn a cardboard box into a comfy pet bed for your four-legged friend. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Use a cardboard box large enough for your pet to fit into comfortably. Large dog breeds will need very large boxes, while smaller boxes are perfect for toy dogs and cats. Select a box that is free of rips, moisture spots and other damage.

    • 2

Cut an opening in one side of the box; this will allow your pet to climb in and out without jumping over the side of the box. Make a block U-shaped opening on one of the longer sides of the box with a utility knife. Use the knife to also carve a decorative trim along the edges of the box, if you like.

Place a pillow in the bottom of the box for extra cushion. Cover the pillow in a terry cloth towel and tuck the edges in all around. The terry cloth will whisk away moisture, like drool, while also absorbing any accidents.
