How to Close MSN

It is important to fully close your MSN account -- as opposed to merely keeping it in an inactive state -- if you no longer plan to use it. An account that is idle but not de-activated continues to receive messages. Closing or de-activating an account that you no longer sign in to ensures that you do not receive emails without your knowledge. Closing your account requires editing the account settings and takes only a few minutes.

Instructions

1. Sign in to the MSN account you want to close.

2. Click "Options."

3. Locate the Managing Your Account section.

4. Click on "Account Details".

5. Click "Close Your Account" within the Other Options section at the bottom of the screen.

6. Locate the section titled "Verify Your Identity to Close Your Account." You will see the email address associated with the account and a blank field below. Enter your password into the field.

7. Click "Yes" to close the account.

Tips & Warnings

• You can re-activate an account within the first 270 days after closing it. Sign in using your original email address and password to re-activate.
