    Components

  1. A bleeder valve works by releasing air, or gas through a valve opening to reduce the built up pressure inside a tank or remove excess air or gas in a system. The bleeder valve has a manually operated or automatic valve opening that serves as an exit point for air in a heating system, compressor or one of many other types of systems. The main functioning component is the valve itself, which is just a simple opening. Other components, such as automatic controls, pressure sensing parts, springs and levers, depend on the type of valve and system it is used on.
  2. Heating System Bleeder Valves

  3. The bleeder valve is commonly used on home water heaters. In this role the valve is used to reduce the amount of air bubbles in the tank, which could end up in the pipes. This results in reduced water pressure and can lead to problems with piping. These valves are installed on the pipes and typically are automatic. The valve will release only air from the system and prevent most of the water from escaping. It has a one-way valve that prevents air from entering the system.
  4. Brake Bleeder Valves

  5. Brake systems in cars also have similar bleeder valves. They are typically hand operated and pushed open using a pin or screwdriver. These valves often are opened by turning a screw, which acts as the "plug" for the valve. The brake bleeder valves will also remove air in the brake lines. When they are depressed the brake lines are opened and air and fluid can be removed through the valve. This clears the lines of air bubbles. New fluid is returned to the cylinder after bleeding occurs.
