- Before you do anything to your eyebrows, examine them and the surrounding areas. Take note of any areas of your eyebrows that seem thicker or bushier than others, as well as any hairs near the eyebrows that you'll want to remove. Get an idea of what you want your eyebrows to look like when you're finished before doing anything, because you don't want to accidentally trim them too much and end up having to wait for hair to regrow.
- Specialized wax strips designed for eyebrow maintenance can be used to remove large portions of unwanted eyebrow hair, though you should make sure that you only use products that are intended for use around the eyes. Certain depilatory creams may also be used, though great care should be taken with them to avoid irritating your eyes and skin. Individual hairs can be plucked using tweezers. This, however, can be a time-consuming process when trying to thin areas that are bushy or if you want to do all of your maintenance without chemicals. If you wish to merely trim your eyebrows, a small pair of scissors can keep bushy areas short while a bit of careful shaving can remove stray hairs quickly and without pain. Extreme caution should always be taken when using any sharp implements or chemicals near the eyes.
- If you are afraid that you might accidentally mess up your eyebrow trimming or simply don't want to go through all of the initial hassle, most beauticians can trim and sculpt eyebrows so that they are the shape and length you desire. Though this option will cost more than doing it yourself, many people find it easier to visit a beauty shop occasionally and then do minor maintenance themselves to keep up the look.
- Check your eyebrows in the mirror at least once per week to make sure they still look the way that you want them to. This will let you determine when it's time to trim or pluck your eyebrows before errant hairs have a chance to make themselves noticeable, and can make keeping your eyebrows in check much easier than if you were to let them go until they needed major trimming again.
