Ford Truck Tune-up Specifications

Each Ford vehicle features its own tune-up requirements.

Ford Motor Company manufactures and assembles lightweight, medium-weight and heavy-duty trucks. Some trucks include the F-150 Series, F-250 Series and Ranger. The truck comes with a variety of engines, including the 4.6-liter and 6.8-liter. When gas-powered Ford trucks needs a tune-up, the manufacturer requires precise specifications.

Ford F-150 Truck

The Ford F-150 truck with a 4.6-liter 8-cylinder engine features a spark plug gap of 0.040 to 0.050 inches and the fuel pump flows at 50 to 60 lbs. per square inch (psi) while the engine runs. The preset ignition timing cannot change, nor can the idle speed since it is electronically controlled. The vehicle comes standard with an interior and exterior hydraulic valve clearance.

Ford F-250 Truck

The Ford F-250 truck with a 5.4 or a 6.8-liter engine features hydraulic valve clearance inside and outside. The preprogrammed ignition timing is 10 degrees before top dead center and cannot change. In addition, the truck comes with an electronic operated idle speed that cannot change. The gap range for the spark plug is 0.0040 to 0.050 inches. The fuel pumps surges at 28 to 45 psi when the engine is on.

Ford Ranger

The Ford Ranger with a 4.0-liter SOHC six-cylinder engine features an exterior and interior hydraulic valve clearance. The vehicle offers an electronic control idle speed that cannot adjust. The 4.0-liter Ford Ranger's idle speed is 10 degrees before the top dead center and cannot modify. The spark plug gap ranges from 0.062 to 0.068 inches. The fuel pumps flows from 60 to 65 psi.
