Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist

A Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) certification affirms that a .NET developer is familiar with one or more VB.NET technologies, including Web Applications, Windows Applications, and others. To take the exam for the MCTS, a developer must have at least one year of relevant training or experience.
Microsoft Certified Professional Developer

The MCPD certification is the next tier of VB.NET certifications. Candidates must pass exams demonstrating their knowledge of Visual Studio and the .NET framework and must have at least two years of experience working with those technologies.

Microsoft provides a directory of local examination times on the Microsoft Certification website listed below. None of the developer certifications require advance classroom training, but candidates should review the exam preparation guides. Most exams cost $125 as of 2010.
