Internet Explorer RSS Feed Problems

Really Simple Syndication or RSS allows you to read content from a website or blog in one central aggregator. Internet Explorer's built-in RSS reader may experience problems if the feed is corrupted or the browser is malfunctioning. Troubleshoot using Microsoft's strategies to determine what's gone wrong.

  1. Problems

    • Microsoft Support identifies two problems Internet Explorer (or IE) users may encounter when trying to read RSS feeds. They may not see their subscribed feeds in Internet Explorer, or they may be unable to subscribe to new feeds from the Web browser.

    Cause

    • A number of factors cause these RSS feed problems. The RSS feed file may be corrupted. You may have a problem with an IE add-on, or you may have a user name problem (related to your RSS feed).

    Troubleshooting

    • Create a new user login in IE and see whether you can add or access RSS feeds. If so, Microsoft advises using the new login instead. Next, try using IE without add-ons: select "Start" then "All Programs" then "Accessories" then "System Tools." Click "Internet Explorer (no Add-Ons)" and try adding an RSS feed. If you can use RSS feeds now, you've likely got a malfunctioning Add-On. Remove Add-Ons one at a time until you find the culprit.
