Many of the exercises that Joseph Pilates created require a piece of equipment that he called the "Universal reformer." The AeroPilates, by Stamina, and the Pilates Power Gym are two reformers available for individuals to use at home.
The Pilates system of exercises done on the universal reformer addresses all parts of the body, but focus on strengthening the core. The reformer consists of a frame, movable padded platform, padded headrest, footrest, springs and pulley cords. The user reclines, kneels, sits or stands on the platform to perform exercises. Look at the differences, as well as the similarities, in the features available on reformers when comparing them.
The AeroPilates comes in several models with price differences for additional features. AeroPilates upgrades include a trampoline-style rebound footrest, instead of a bar, a stand to raise the equipment from the floor and additional lengths. The Pilates Power Gym does not have those features. It comes in only one model and accommodates users up 6 feet 2 inches tall. The Pilates Power Gym has an incline feature, however, for additional muscle-building moves.
While the Pilates Power Gym comes already assembled, the AeroPilates requires assembly. Both have metal frames, but the AeroPilates has wood accents. The AeroPilates has a warranty ranging from 3 to 5 years on the frame and 90 days on parts, while the Pilates Power Gym offers a 1-year warranty and offers payment plans. Both the AeroPilates and Pilates Power Gym have four levels of resistance, a 300 lb. weight limit and come with workout DVDs.
