CNET Internet Connection Speed Test
CNET's Internet connection speed test is known as the CNET Bandwidth Meter. It is available free to all Internet users as a method to test connection speed, or bandwidth, of their Internet service provider.
-
Significance
-
Internet connection speed tests are available for users who are curious about their connection speed statistics. CNET's test tells you only your download speed, or bandwidth, but it is more accessible than other speed tests that provide more data.
Function
-
Bandwidth tests, such as the one offered by CNET, function by sending a file for your computer to download. At CNET, you may choose your connection type, which determines the size of the file that will be sent. CNET's server then monitors this download and reports its findings to you. Some other speed tests also offer upload speed tests, where the same file is sent back to their servers for testing.

Considerations
-
When running an Internet connection speed test such as CNET's Bandwidth Meter, make sure no applications or computers on your network are utilizing bandwidth. This can significantly lower the speed recorded in the speed test.
