AXXo torrent is specific BitTorrent created by the unknown computer hacker known only as "aXXo." This pirate is notorious for placing illegal, high-quality movie downloads online, often before the official DVD is released.

AXXo History

The alias aXXo first appeared in 2005, and the true identity of the online pirate has never been confirmed. AXXo gained popularity among the illegal-download world because his DVD rips were of high quality and compressed into 700-megabyte files, thus able to burn on a single writable CD.

AXXo's Popularity

Movie titles made available as torrent downloads by aXXo consistently reach 500,000 to 1 million downloads per week. About 33.5 percent of all movies downloaded on BitTorrents use aXXo torrents.

Fake AXXo Torrents

Because of the intense popularity of aXXo, several fake pirates using the aXXo alias have posted movies with far less quality online. According to a 2009 article written by Tim Walker that appeared in NZ Herald, it has been rumored that the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) began uploading fake, blank movies using the aXXo name to catch illegal downloaders.
