What Is Web Television?
As audiences move from watching TV on a set to watching it online, a new type of programming emerges called Web Television. While this type of programming shares some basic traits with regular television, there are many features that are unique to it.
-
Web Exclusive
-
Web Television shows are made only for the Internet and mobile phones. They are not to be confused with Internet television, which is a method of distributing network TV shows online.
Short
-
Web Television shows are between two and nine minutes long, but they tell a complete story with a beginning, middle and end.
-
Episodic
-
Like a regular TV series, Web Television seasons are broken up into episodes, each one being around two to nine minutes long.
Streaming
-
Web Television shows generally stream online for free, and most are ad-supported. They are fairly cheap to produce and have almost no distribution cost.
On Demand
-
Unlike a show that airs on television, anyone can access a Web Television show at any time they like, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
