Bubble mailer envelopes protect items sent through the mail.

Bubble mailers or bubble envelopes are envelopes (often self-sealing) with a built-in plastic bubble wrap lining. These are used to mail items that need a little extra protection while in transit.

  1. Materials

    • Bubble mailers come in a variety of materials including golden kraft paper, white paper, recycled kraft or white paper, and polyolefin (poly), which is moisture resistant.

    Function

    • Most bubble mailer envelopes come with lining that is about one-eighth of an inch thick. This allows for easy insertion of the object to be mailed, while still providing protection.

    Dimensions

    • Common sizes are 4 by 8 inches, 5 by 10 inches, 6 by 10 inches, 7 ¼ by 12 inches, 8 ½ by 12 inches, 8 ½ by 14 ½ inches, 9 ½ by 14 ½ inches, 10 ½ by 16 inches, 12 ½ by 19 inches, 14 ¼ by 20 inches, and 6 ½ by 8 ½ inches (which are for CDs).

    Size Codes

    • Bubble mailers are usually stamped with a number according to the above listed sizes. The sizes 4 by 8 inches up to 14 ½ by 20 inches are sizes 000 to 7, respectively.

    Buying in Bulk

    • There are numerous companies that produce and sell bubble mailer envelopes, and in most cases, they can be ordered in cases of 25 to 250.
