Neutrogena Rejuvenator Vs. Chemical Peel
The Neutrogena Healthy Skin Rejuvenator is an exfoliating tool for home use. Chemical peels range in power but are typically performed by medical specialists. Both of these products help remove outer layers of the skin from the face for a younger appearance but do so in very different ways. A peel uses chemicals to remove layers of skin while the Rejuvenator uses vibrations and exfoliating puffs. Does this Spark an idea?

The Rejuvenator
-
The Neutrogena Healthy Skin Rejuvenator is a battery operated hand held tool that uses vibrating replaceable puffs to exfoliate the skin. This product can be purchased at most drug stores for around $40 and is intended for home use .
A Chemical Peel
-
Types of peels range from mild to very strong. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, a chemical peel "uses a chemical solution to improve and smooth the texture of the facial skin by removing its damaged outer layers... Many states have laws that permit non-physicians to administer certain peel solutions, but regulate the strengths which they are permitted to apply." Some mild peels can be purchased by consumers for home use.

Ideal Candidates
-
Both of the products are aimed at mature skin that shows signs of aging. Faces that have wrinkles or age spots are ideal candidates. According to Neutrogena, the Rejuvenator is not intended for those who have "broken or abraded skin, rosacea, pustular acne or other serious sensitive-skin disorders and/or infections." Instead the product is intended for those with normal skin. A chemical peel is specifically aimed at those with blemishes, wrinkles and uneven skin pigmentation.
Recovery Time
-
The Rejuvenator can be used up to three times a week and has little to no recovery time. Since there are so many different levels of peels, recovery time is individual to the peel type ranging from one day to months with symptoms ranging from mild redness and flaking to pain, scabbing and crusting.
Results
-
Due to the wide range of peel types, results vary from improved texture and smoothness to noticeable decreases in blemishes and wrinkles. Neutrogena cites a dermatological study held using the Rejuvenator. According to the study results, among subjects "91% had smoother, more luminous skin" and after four weeks 88% found a "reduced appearance of wrinkles or age spots."
