What Is Stronger Than Augmentin?
Augmentin is an oral antibiotic with amoxicillin that is prescribed to treat bacterial infections. Although Augmentin is a strong antibiotic, other drugs can be more effective in treating certain types and strains of infections.
-
Tetracycline
-
Tetracycline antibiotics, such as minocycline (Minocin) and demeclocyline (Declomycin), work better than Augmentin in treating Rocky Mountain Spotted Tick Fever and sexually transmitted diseases.
Erythromycin
-
Erythromycin (Ilotycin) is most commonly preferred as the antibiotic of choice for treating Legionnaire's disease and diphtheria.
-
Aminoglycoside
-
One of the strongest types of antibiotic is aminoglycoside. This is usually reserved for seriously ill, hospitalized patients with infections that are considered life threatening.
Anti-fungal Agents
-
Augmentin, like other types of anti-bacterial drugs, is not effective in treating fungal infections. Antibiotics like griseofulvin (Grisactin) must be used to properly treat vaginal yeast infections, ringworm and other infections caused by fungus.
Polypeptide
-
Polypeptide antibiotics, such as Polysporin, are stronger than Augmentin for treating various types of skin infections. This type of antibiotic is mixed with creams and ointments to facilitate proper application.
