How Are Images Captured

Specially-equipped cars are used to collect the images on Google Street View. A multi-lens camera sits atop the car and takes videos from 360° angles which is then created into static images.
Type of Camera Used

The Dodeca 2360 camera by Immersive Media features 11 lenses and is the size and shape of a softball. It costs $45,000.
Privacy Issues

Citing invasion of privacy, some groups object to Google Street View. However, Google photos are taken on public property, and are not illegal.
