Cheeseburger Festival in Caseville Michigan

The "Cheeseburger in Caseville" festival is held for ten days in August in the normally quiescent beach town of Caseville, Michigan. It is based on the famous tune by Jimmy Buffet entitled "Cheeseburger in Paradise," and celebrates American and Caribbean culture.

  1. History

    • The first Cheeseburger Festival was held on August 7, 1999. The attendance was not as abundant as it is today but over the years has flourished into a Caseville tradition.

    Events

    • During the jovial ten-day event there are a wide variety of activities for adults as well as children. These include the juiciest hamburger competition, a classic car show and the best Caribbean-dressed baby contest.

    Tourism

    • Caseville, whose campgrounds and beaches already make it a popular vacation destination, experiences a soar in tourism during the festival, which has become enormously beneficial for boosting the local economy.

    Cuisine

    • The Cheeseburger Festival's emphasis on both American and Caribbean culture is reflected in its culinary offerings, where attendees can feast on hamburgers, tropical fruits and jerked chicken. Remaining faithful to its Jimmy Buffet roots, Margaritas are also a ubiquitous festival staple.

    Flamingos

    • During these ten days in August tourists are not the only visitors to Caseville. Thousands of pink flamingos making their way south for the winter choose the town as a temporary layover, intensifying the already picturesque atmosphere.
