Mystic Tan is a sunless tanning spray that uses dihydroxyacetone to turn skin a shade of tan. A tan begins to develop in one to two hours, depending on the concentration of DHA in the Mystic Tan formula. According to Spray Tan Guide, one shouldn't shower for at least five hours after a Mystic Tan application. Several independent salons recommend waiting four hours.

Mystic Tan is available in a tinted bronze formula for an immediate change in skin color and a clear formula called ClearMyst. If using the clear formula, taking a shower isn't necessary since there is no risk to staining sheets or clothes. It is still recommended to avoid swimming and physical activity that will cause heavy perspiration.
