Use a Formula for Chandelier Swag Length

Swag chandeliers should hang 35 inches from the tabletop. Subtract 35 inches from the amount of space between your table and the ceiling. Add this number to the space between the spot on the ceiling above the outlet to the spot on the ceiling from which you'll hang the chandelier. Add that amount to the space between the ceiling and the wall outlet.

Differing Formulas for Different Locations

Sometimes swag chandeliers are hung over an end table or sideboard. Use the same formula for these as you would use for a dining room table. Hang an entryway chandelier at least 7 feet from the ground, leaving plenty of space to walk beneath. If your entryway is taller, you should go higher.
