While many people lose weight to trim the entire body, some people want to target specific trouble areas. Many women see their large breasts as one of these trouble areas, and hope to use weight loss as a permanent way to shrink their bust size. Weight loss is in fact a way for large chested women to decrease their breast size, but there are several pointers to keep in mind before beginning your weight loss program. Building your pectoral muscles is key when you want to shrink your bust line and give yourself a natural lift.

  1. Spot training

    • A common misconception about weight loss and body building is that you can target one specific area to build muscle by continuously working that muscle. The truth is, body fat is burned all over the body, not just one specific region. If you are looking to burn fat and build muscle in a specific area, like the breasts, you have to incorporate a total body fitness plan and burn fat all over the body. Over time, you will notice a decrease in your breast size as well as your waist, stomach and hips.

    Pectoral muscles

    • Aside from total body weight loss the most important thing to remember about weight loss and the breasts is to build the pectoral muscles. Doing this is very important because the pectoral muscles lift and firm the breasts, a necessity in female weight loss even if you aren't trying to decrease your breast size. A woman with large breast who wants to lose weight may experience some sagging and softness in her breasts as her weight decreases if she doesn't tone her pectoral muscles.

    Pectoralis Major

    • The pectoralis major is one of the two muscles that form your chest. It is the visible muscle of your chest that is thick and shaped like a fan. The fastest way to build this muscle is to target the chest from different angles.

    Pectoralis minor

    • The pectoralis minor is the smaller muscle of the chest that lies below the pectoralis major, which pulls the arms and shoulders across the front of the body and is used in pushing motions. Exercises like push ups and working out on a Pec Deck machine helps to strengthen this muscle.

    Chest exercises

    • Developing a safe yet efficient chest workout is essential in losing weight while maintaining a beautiful chest. Common workouts like pushups help to develop both the pectoral major and minor while exercises like flat bench dumbbell flys help to develop the outer pectorals.

      Flat bench dumbbell flys are done by lying on your back on a flat bench or some other flat surface. Have a spotter hand you a dumbbell for each hand at whatever weight you feel comfortable with, however, it is advised to start low. Starting with your arms stretched out in front of you and your hands facing each other, bend your arms at the elbows and lower them until your elbows are parallel with your shoulders. Then lift your arms back up into starting position. Repeat this for 2 sets of 15 to 20 repetitions.
