Capiz shell comes from mollusks that only live in Indonesia and the Philippines. After the shell is collected, it is cleaned to remove salt water and imperfections. It is then polished to bring out the natural beauty in the shell and coated to protect it from environmental elements, such as dust and allergens. The shell is then cut into the shape it is needed for the item it is used in. It is commonly used in platters, jewelry, candle holders and lamps. Wipe your capiz shell lamp routinely, to keep it free of dirt and dust, using only water and a soft cloth. If deeper cleaning is needed, you can use liquid dish soap.
