Mohair is a luxury fabric similar to silk and is made from the hair of Angora goats. This type of fabric is characterized by high sheen and luster and is both durable and resilient and therefore a preferred choice in upholstery. Proper care and maintenance are required when cleaning mohair upholstery to ensure no damage is done to the fabric. Although the fabric is durable, it is delicate and can be ruined if an abrasive cleaner is used to clean the upholstery.

Step 1

Brush the mohair fabric using a hard clothes brush. This type of brush can be found at most grocery stores and contains hard bristles typically used to remove lint from clothes. Brush in the same direction as the nap of the mohair.

Step 2

Vacuum the upholstery using a nozzle attachment with soft bristles. Most vacuum cleaners come with these attachments that are placed on the hose as an extension. Wipe the nozzle over the upholstery in the same direction as the mohair.

Step 3

Rub the mohair in a circular motion using a dampened leather cloth to rejuvenate the fabric. Rub in the same direction as the mohair.
