Ford produced the Windstar minivan from 1995 to 2003. For the 2004 model year, the Ford Freestar took its place in Ford's lineup. All Windstar models were available with keyless entry. If you have lost one of your keyless-entry remotes, you can program a new remote for the van. The procedure is simpler for older Windstar models, but in any case shouldn't take you longer than 10 minutes.

1995 to 1997 Ford Windstar

Step 1

Turn your key to accessory mode ("Acc") or turn it to "On," but don't crank the Windstar's engine.

Step 2

Open the Windstar's glove box. Push the sides of the glove box inward and lower it. Behind the glove box you'll see the programming connector.

Step 3

Insert the ends of the jumper wire into the two programming connector holes. You'll hear the Windstar's doors lock and unlock. Remove the pins.

Step 4

Push either "Unlock" or "Lock" on the remote. You'll hear the Windstar's doors lock and unlock again. Push either button on the next remote you want to program, if you are programming multiple remotes. Turn the key to "Off" and remove it.

Step 5

Push the glove box into position and squeeze the sides inward to move it back into its place.

1998 to 2003 Ford Windstar

Step 1

Insert the key into the Windstar's ignition and leave it in "Off."

Step 2

Turn the key from "Off" to "Run" eight times in a 10-second window. Stop with the key in the "Run" position.

Step 3

Push either "Unlock" or "Lock" on the remote. You'll hear the Windstar's doors lock and unlock. Push the button on the next remote if you are programming more than one.

Step 4

Turn the Windstar's key to "Off" and remove it.
