How to Install an Andersen Window Screen

Save

An Andersen window uses a half or full screen. The window screen prevents insects and debris from coming into your home through an open window. When holes develop in your window screen due to weather or other conditions, it is necessary to replace the screen. Removing and installing an Andersen window screen is done from inside the home, without the need to climb on a ladder to access the screen. Replacement screens are available at Andersen-authorized dealers. Installing the screen is simply a matter of locking it into place.

Full Screen

Unlock the lower sash and open it fully.

Unlock the wing clips on each side of the Andersen window-screen frame. The wing clips are the metal levers you pull out to release the screen. Grab the plastic finger-flap at the bottom of the window-screen frame with your fingers.

Push the bottom of the screen out while holding the plastic finger-flap. Grab the screen with your free hand and angle it through the window and into the room.

Turn the new screen at an angle and insert it through the window opening. Insert the top of the screen into the window frame.

Pull the bottom of the screen to position it in the window frame. Turn the wing clips down to lock the screen in place. The wing clips are flush with the Andersen window-screen frame when locked securely.

Full Screen With Bottom Latches

Unlock the lower sash and open it fully.

Press the bottom screen latches toward the center of the Andersen window screen. Push the bottom of the screen outward and grab the screen by its sides.

Pull down slightly to release the upper clips from the window frame. Angle the screen and pull it through the window opening.

Insert the top of the new screen through the window opening at an angle while holding the sides of the screen frame. Insert the top of the tabs of the screen frame into the window-frame holes. Pull the bottom of the screen toward the window.

Push the latches inward toward the center of the screen and continue pulling the bottom of the screen frame into the window frame. Release the latches to lock the frame into position.

Half Screens

Unlock the lower sash and open it fully.

Unlock the wing tabs on one side of the Andersen window screen. Push the unlocked side of the screen away from the window and grab the top and bottom of the screen frame.

Continue pushing the screen away at an angle until the locked latches on the other side of the screen unhinge from the frame. Angle the screen through the window and into the room.

Lock the two latches on one side of the new window screen. Insert the screen through the window and hinge the locked latches into the window frame. Pull the opposite side of the screen back toward the window frame.

Grab the lower screen pull to press the window screen into the frame and lock the two remaining side latches.
