Wood floors are the perfect meeting ground for dirt and germs that are tracked in from outside. To properly clean and kill the germs on the wood, a disinfectant may be used. Homemade non-toxic cleaners offer a less harmful substitution to many commercial home products and are often less expensive. Use a few common household items to create a non-toxic wood floor disinfectant cleaner.
Step 1
Pour equal amounts of white distilled vinegar and water into a spray bottle.

Step 2
Add 15 drops of pure peppermint oil to the white distilled vinegar and water mix.
Step 3
Shake the bottle to mix the vinegar, water and peppermint.
Step 4
Store the bottle in a dry, cool, dark place such as a cupboard until you are ready to use it.
Tip
Test a small area of the wood floor with the homemade disinfectant cleaner to ensure no damage is done to the material.
