Turn candy wrappers into accessories or dollhouse decorations by putting them in a toaster oven. The heat shrinks the wrappers to a miniature size and makes them a hard plastic. Punch a hole in the top of the wrappers before shrinking to insert a jump ring and add to an earring or necklace. Shrinking candy wrappers is a project that will entertain children or teenagers for an afternoon of creating.
Things You'll Need
Empty the candy wrapper.
Wipe down the candy wrapper with a damp paper towel to remove any crumbs.
Preheat a toaster oven to 325 degrees F.
Place the wrapper—logo side down— flat on a cookie sheet.
Insert the cookie sheet into the toaster oven.
Watch the wrapper shrink down to a miniature size and remove the cookie sheet with oven mitts when finished shrinking. The process of shrinking usually takes two to 10 minutes.
Turn off the toaster oven and allow the wrapper to cool for 15 minutes.
Remove the miniature wrapper from the cookie sheet, using a spatula if it is slightly stuck.
Cut the wrapper into shapes like stars for a different look.
Spray the wrapper after cooling with a clear acrylic spray to prevent scratches if being worn as jewelry or a key chain.
Supervise children and teenagers when doing this project.
Open windows and ventilate when shrinking wrappers in the toaster oven.
